The Toshiba Excite AT200 Tablet Gets A Launch Date For Canada, But Several Other Parts Of The Launch Aren't Yet Emerged

The existence of the Toshiba Excite tablet has been known for some time now, since it made its appearance out at the 2011 IFA show in Berlin. But while we’ve known about the tablet itself–also referred to as the AT200–for some time now, release dates on this one have been a bit fluid of late. Now the newest word has emerged, and the target date for this one to hit shelves is February, in Canada.

The Toshiba Excite itself is set to offer up a 10.1 inch display showing at a 1280 x 800 resolution, a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 processor running at 1.2 GHz, a full gig of RAM, a five megapixel camera facing the front and a two megapixel camera facing the rear for your videoconferencing needs, and your choice of 16 or 32 gigs of onboard storage.

The up side is that Toshiba’s going to fit all of that in a casing that measures just 7.7 mm thick, which makes this one an extremely thin, and extremely portable, tablet. The down side here is that the Excite will be running on Android 3.2 when it finally makes its appearance, at last report, but word is that Toshiba still has plans to go for the full Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade when it becomes available.
Of course, considering that the release window is February on this tablet, it’s well within the realm of possibility that Android 4.0 will land on this one by the time it actually gets its release, and if it’s going to hit Canada in February, chances are the rest of North America won’t be too far off from that. But considering that pricing is as yet unavailable, it’s going to be tough to project just how well this one will actually do, especially since we should be looking at a new iPad to launch around that time.

So what do you guys think about this one? Like the thought of an ultra-thin tablet that may eventually run Ice Cream Sandwich? Or do you think you’ll hold out for the next iPad? No matter what you think, we want to hear from you, and the comments section is just waiting for you to head down and talk Toshiba Excite!
