Main Body On March 8 and 9, Ryerson University will host Press Freedom in Canada: A Status Report on the 30th Anniversary of The Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The two-day conference brings together journalists, lawyers, scholars, students and members of the public to reflect on the purpose and importance of The Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Jointly organized by Ryerson’s Law Research Centre and the Journalism Research Centre, the first day of the conference will feature a series of panel discussions.
The second day of the conference focuses on in-depth examinations of key issues affecting
press freedom, including court restrictions on media access to information, the implications of new media, and government strategies that hinder access to information.
Additional Info Tony Burman, former Managing Director of Al Jazeera English Network will give a luncheon address entitled Al Jazeera and the battle for press freedom: Lessons for Canada.
