Torstar Digital Names President
2012-05-09

Christopher Goodridge has been appointed as President of Torstar Digital, effective immediately.
Goodridge has been with Torstar Corporation since 2004. During that time he has held a number of positions with both Torstar Corporation and Torstar Digital.
Goodridge was named Acting President of Torstar Digital in April, when Tomer Strolight left the company to pursue other opportunities.

Prior to that position, Goodridge was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Torstar Digital, responsible for leading the Finance function, partnering with the business leaders on digital strategy & operations as well as leading the M&A and partnership activities for Torstar Digital. Prior to assuming the Finance role at Torstar Digital, he was the Director of Corporate Development for Torstar.
Goodridge holds an Executive MBA from the University of Toronto and a Law Degree from Osgoode Hall Law School.
"Chris has played an important role over the years in establishing many of our important digital initiatives. He is a strong leader, a strategic thinker and someone we have confidence will have a significant impact on our efforts in the digital space," said David Holland, President & Chief Executive Officer of Torstar Corporation.
In its latest financial report, Holland described quarterly results as "solid...given the environment"
EBITDA was down $1.5 million to $40.2 million, he described.
"In the Media Segment, EBITDA was $22.1 million, down $0.4 million, as continued efforts on cost control mitigated the impact of a challenging print advertising environment. At Harlequin, EBITDA was down $1.5 million on lower revenues as we continue to adjust in the print and digital book publishing markets to the shift to digital reading."
"Looking forward, in the Canadian Media operations visibility remains limited on the print advertising market and the digital advertising market continues to evolve rapidly. At Harlequin, after a strong 2011, we are anticipating a modest decline in results in 2012."

Torstar Corporation is a broadly based media and book publishing. Its businesses include the Star Media Group led by the Toronto Star, and digital properties including thestar.com, toronto.com, ShopCatch, Workopolis, Olive Media, and eyeReturn Marketing; Metroland Media Group, publisher of community and daily newspapers in Ontario; and Harlequin, a global publisher of books for women.
