Emerging startups showcase their work

On Thursday, Sprouter hosted the first Young Innovators Showcase, featuring startups from Ryerson’s Digital Media Zone, The Next 36, Waterloo’s VeloCity, NSpire, and OCAD’s Imagination Catalyst.
Twenty emerging startups took part in the Toronto event, setting up booths and showcasing their businesses to an engaged audience of entrepreneurs, media, investors, and startup enthusiasts. Sponsored by TD Bank, the event saw young entrepreneurs mingling with community leaders like Jet Cooper founder Satish Kanwar, and active investors like Sunil Sharma of Extreme Startups.
Participating startups from Ryerson’s DMZ program included:

Greengage Mobile Online platform allows companies to manage Corporate Social Responsibilities efforts, and align these with employee actions.
Tapgage Network that provides a unique way for mobile app developers to monetize their users through any stage of the app lifecycle.
SoapBoxHQ Community management tool tied into online, and mobile experiences, allowing users to expand conversations with customers across multiple platforms.
JobDeals Online platform that notifies businesses and professionals in your area that it believes can serve you best, and invite them to submit a price quote for your job.
Venngage Powerful publishing platform that helps businesses create and publish custom infographics, engage viewers and track results.
Tiny Hearts Makers of InstaMatch. An iPad game that combines photos from the popular iPhone app Instagram with clever twists on the classic cardmatching puzzle game.

Kytephone Phone application that turns any Android phone into a kid-friendly phone, complete with fun visuals, call limiting, parental controls, and monitoring tools.
Spenz A proactive, free mobile and web application designed to make budgeting fast and fun. With Spenz, you can track anything in 3 seconds or less.
Sound Selecta Sound Selecta Inc products give people the ability to enjoy music and art in new and innovative ways.
Startups participating from The Next 36 included:
PenyoPa Penyo Pal aims to teach kids – and kids at heart – a new language in a fun and engaging way. Their first app, Food Frenzy, teaches mandarin by simulating a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Triumf Triumf is an easy-to-use loyalty program that allows businesses to influence customer behavior and drive profitability by offering fun rewards.
Checkout Checkout is a private network that makes it easy to discover places you’ll love from the people you know.
Appileo Appileo is a social and personal educational app discovery tool for parents.
BetterU BetterU removes the barriers between employees, their learning and their career development.
Row1Sports Row1Sports allows sports fans to reach a new level of engagement within live games by offering real time predictions and discussions complementing play.

Other startups that participated from NSpire, OCAD’s Imagination Catalyst program, Waterloo’s VeloCity, and from the Toronto startup community included:

WingMate Online dating site that makes finding a partner more social by adding friends. Users can sign up as Mates, who are searching for a date, or as Wings to vouch for their friends, and play matchmaker.

Mediaspot.me Mediaspot.me unlocks the power of human knowledge by helping journalists and people with expertise connect. The result is better guests for journalists and greater media attention for those with expertise.

Tunezy Tunezy is the first marketplace for Musicians to offer engaging experiences like virtual concerts, backstage passes, and shout-outs to not just their fans, but to the fans they have yet to earn.

Translator Translator is a project to capture all facets of the learning environment, from instructor audio, notes, power point, and video, to give students a timeline of each learning experience.

Revelo Bikes The Revelo LIFEbike is an agile e-bike weighing 15 kgs that folds easily for storage in your car, or condo.
