Telus says BCE’s deal to purchase Astral Media is anti-competitive
The Canadian Press
MONTREAL — Telecommunications company Telus says it opposes the $3.4-billion purchase of Montreal-based Astral Media by telecom competitor BCE.
Telus says the proposed deal would be reduce competition and give Bell unprecedented market power.
Vancouver-based Telus says the purchase of Astral could give Bell a 49.5 per cent share of the English-language television audience.
Telus says the deal would limit choice for Canadians and raise costs for consumers.
Telus is supporting a coalition comprised of Quebecor, Cogeco and Eastlink and has filed a submission against the acquisition to the CRTC.
