Walrus, NCM organize immigrant journalist training webinar

The Walrus and the New Canadian Media (NCM) on Saturday organized an immigrant #journalist training webinar. #cdnimm

Several journalists took part in the 6-hour virtual event, which was attended by MEDIAinTORONTO, to learn more about media and press atmosphere in Canada.

Key speakers were Samia Madwar, the managing director of the Walrus, Angela Misri, from Walrus, Rita Trichur, from the Globe, Joyeeta Ray, the New Canadian Media (NCM), George Abraham (NCM) and Bret Jolly from the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ). Mohamed Hammoud was the moderator of the webinar.

New Canadian Media is a website dedicated to news and views about the one-fifth of Canadians who are immigrants. They provide original journalism from an immigrant perspective along with content produced by partners in Canada’s ethnic media.

For its part, The Walrus provokes new thinking and sparks conversation on matters vital to Canadians. As a registered charity, Walrus publishes independent, fact-based journalism, produce national, ideas-focused events, and train emerging professionals in publishing and non-profit management.
