Nadine Spencer is the chief executive officer of brand EQ Group, a global agency specializing in social change. Marketing Communications and Public Relations Nadine pioneered brand EQ black her company’s cultural sensitivity arm, which works with companies banks governments and leading nonprofits to look at racial biases in advertising and marketing. She is currently the president and CEO of the Black Business and Professional Association in Toronto, and is a director on the York University Alumni Board and a lifelong Leadership Institute board.
Also joining us today is Richard Pinnock senior manager of diversity and inclusion, with Walmart Canada. Richard has more than 30 years of management experience at leading organizations where he has implemented innovative diversity and inclusion strategies in uniquely Canadian ways. He continues to share his extensive and spirit experience to promote diversity, equity and inclusion as part of Walmart’s team in Canada.
“Born in Montreal, my father immigrated from Jamaica, and my mother from Germany. Either of my parents went further than grade seven in school. I have a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, and an MBA from New York University, now called Schulich. I’m a living example of the growing diversity of Canada. “ Pinnock said introducing himself during the zoom meeting. He Added ” When I think about Black History Month. I always think about racism and discrimination because they’ve always been part of my life. We live in a wonderful little part of Laval Quebec, a suburb of Montreal, or she was literally like the United Nations.
“My story is that I became a businesswoman from the age of 12. At the moment I didn’t know that. But my mother a Jamaican immigrant migrated to Canada for you We all heard of the language with the land of milk and honey.” Spencer said. “But you know, one of the reasons why I champion entrepreneurship and I became an A when the role of President of the BDP came up I accepted that I wanted to create a path, and the future of financial success for black people, and black women, because I knew what it was to be a black woman entrepreneur and enabled myself from being that 12 year old girl in the marketplace that became the boss of the Spanish down market” And, you know, as a woman, as a black woman I say there’s three uniqueness to me is I’m a woman. I’m black, and I’m a black woman, and each three of those have different challenges, they have different issues that one has to deal with.”
