Rob Oliphant Meets with Egyptian Officials During visit To Cairo

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rob Oliphant, on Tuesday, met with Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for North America Affairs, Dr. Mahi Hassan Abdel Latif, at the Egyptian foreign ministry in Cairo.

The meeting touched on ways of boosting bilateral relations in various domains.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Assem Hanafi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sherif Issa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs, and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development.

Dr. Mahi Hassan Abdel Latif hailed the two countries’ common interest in issues of women’s empowerment and education while highlighting the vital role the Egyptian community in Canada is playing.

The conversation also dwelt with proposing cooperation mechanisms in the parliamentary field, the leading Egyptian role in Africa and Egyptian efforts to support its development path, and what Canada can offer in this regard within the framework of the strong partnership relations between the two countries, as well as the common interest in strengthening security, stability, support for health, education, women’s empowerment, and combating extremism.

Oliphant also held a meeting with Dr. Ali Abo Sena, CEO of the Egyptian Environment Affairs Agency and his team.

He congratulated Egypt on hosting #COP27.

They agreed on the importance of collaboration to fight #ClimateChange, during which he reiterated Canada’s commitment to doing its part. 

The Canadian official had a meeting earlier with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, during which they discussed the importance of strengthening our collaboration, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the environment, and the war in Ukraine and its impacts on the region.
